It is often said that a journey to Peru is like a journey into our own heart. It is a place full of magic, mystery, warmth and love. For thousands of years, Peru has been home to some of the most advanced civilizations man has known. From the wonder of Machu Picchu to the Mystery of Tiwanaku, this ancient land beckons.
Magical Peru

Now more than ever we are finding a need to reconnect to these early civilizations. There is no place on earth like magical Peru. For those who have a longing to rediscover a deep wisdom and inner peace, this will be a journey of the heart, led by a Master of the Heart, Amaru, an initiated holder of the ancient knowledge of the Amara people. The secrets these people have held for thousands of years are now being shared through the work of Amaru and others like him. Come, walk with us along these ancient paths as we unite the Eagle and the Condor.
Joining you on this journey will be Laura Gates and Andrew Leitch, world travelers, fellow seekers on the path and healers in their own right. Andrew and Laura have extensive experience helping groups and individuals translate and apply diverse spiritual teachings in a practical and grounded way, allowing you to integrate this magical energy to transform your everyday life.
The Eagle and the Condor
Many of the indigenous cultures of the world share a two-thousand year old prophecy of the Eagle and the Condor. In the Andes it is expressed as the coming of the new Pachacuti, an interval of roughly 500 years. The prophecy foretold an unbalance and tremendous conflict throughout the Americas from 1500 to 2000. During this time the Eagle, representing the mental and materialistic, has driven the Condor, representing the spiritual and heart-centered or those in tune with the natural world, almost to extinction.

According to the prophecy we are beginning a 500-year cycle, the “Fifth Pachacuti”, or Returning to the Light, characterized by the manifestation of the feminine, a time when the Condor will rise again and fly wing to wing in the same sky as the Eagle and the world will come into balance. It is a time of partnership, love and healing, and a transition into more sustainable and earth-honouring ways. This can also be seen as a balancing of our inner feminine and masculine or the Yin and Yang. In Machu Picchu Forever, Mallku states that “Man has to open to this new planetary vibration of the Mother and feel that our Earth’s pole, or the center of feminine magnetic radiation is already active and that is manifesting itself through the doors of the sacred Lake Titicaca.” On this journey we will find balance within, using sacred space and nature as a mirror of these two fundamental universal forces. If these two energies can find balance within our daily lives then our outer world is transformed to match.
The Journey of a Lifetime

This 14-day journey to Ancient Peru, culminating with a Summer Solstice ceremony on the Island of Amantani in Lake Titicaca, is a return to the heart-wisdom ways of the Condor; to individually begin fulfilling the prophecy within ourselves and to hear what the earth is trying to tell us - what is being called forth in us? How can we best honour that calling within? These are questions we’ll explore throughout this journey, as we tune into the energy of the land and its wisdom keepers.
We begin our journey in the timeless city of Cusco then onto the incredible Sacred Valley that will lead us to Machu Picchu and then on down to Puno and the Ajayu Marka. As we pass through these magical places, we will be led in ceremony and reflection by Amaru. Lake Titicaca will be the culmination of the journey, as we celebrate the summer solstice of 2011 at 5000 meters above sea level in the Temples of Light. These temples are thousands of years old and hold the energy of Pachamama (mother earth) and Pachatata (father sky).
Ancient Initiation of the Solar Disc
Buried deep beneath the waters of the Lake is said to be a Solar Disc. Legend says at the time Lemuria was sinking, one of the seven Great Masters of Lemuria, Lord Aramu Meru, was given the mission to bring the sacred Golden Solar Disc from the Temple of Illumination to Lake Titicaca for safe keeping. The Incans safeguarded the disc in their grand temple The Koricancha. This disc was seen as the centre of their civilization and was revered for the knowledge and wisdom it held. At the time of the Spanish invasion the Incans returned the disc to the Eternal city beneath the waters of Lake Titicaca. It is now that the knowledge and wisdom that is held in the Solar Disc is being revealed to the world at large. We will connect with this energy during the highly auspicious time of the Summer Solstice. We are the new carriers of this wisdom, and it is through us a new world will take shape.

As a spiritual seeker, student and teacher, Laura Gates is honored to co-lead this tour with Andrew to Macchu Picchu and Lake Titicaca, the origin of her spiritual initiation 22 years ago. Laura is deeply connected with the Latin culture and native language after living and travelling throughout South America for a year in 1989. Since then she has returned several times, including a shamanic healing journey to Aconcagua in the Argentinian Andes in 1999. Laura is a firm believer in the transformative work of traveling outside one’s element and embracing the unknown of a spiritual quest in a foreign land. She has traveled world-wide on her own personal spiritual journey and is honored to be joining Andrew to lead others during this incredibly powerful place during the very auspicious time of the Winter Solstice.
As an executive coach and facilitator with Learning as Leadership for the past 17 years, Laura is highly trained in facilitating personal development work. She has helped hundreds of people step into their true potential through one-on-one coaching, group seminars and on-site trainings. Peru Travel Information
Peru Weather: In general, Peru has two seasons, wet and dry, but in a country as geographically diverse as Peru, local weather patterns vary greatly. In the highlands, the dry season is between May and November, but even the mountains’ wet season is not always wet and the dry season sees downpours. Temperatures during the day in the dry season can get hot. At night, temperatures can drop quickly and a warm sweater makes walking around the plazas comfortable.
The Mountain Highlands (Cusco, Lake Titicaca) November - Mid April This is the wet season with most rain in January and February. It’s usually clear and dry most mornings with outbursts of heavy rain in the afternoons. The daily temperatures are typically mild with only a small drop at night.
The Coast (Lima, Nasca, Arequipa). December - April This is summertime on the coast where the weather is hot and dry and ideal for swimming and getting a tan. Temperatures on average range from 25 - 35°C. There is little or no rain during these months.
We recommend you:
- Use boots during treks and sneakers during long walks.
- Drinking lots of water on long excursions, especially at Lake Titikaka.
- Always take an umbrella or rain wear.
Water
The tap water in most of Peru is potable, but the chemical content varies from place to place. To avoid problems, we recommend that you always drink bottled water. Do not drink any tap water, even to brush your teeth. Do not eat any raw salads, raw fruits or raw vegetables. If you want to purify your water before drinking it, your can either bring a 220-volt heating coil for boiling water, or you can use water-purification tablets or a water purifier, which is available at any camping store.
Valuables
Pickpockets abound in crowded areas and muggings in Cusco are on the rise. Therefore you are advised to leave all valuables in the hotel safe, including passport, credit cards, and other identifying papers. You are advised to leave valuable clothing, precious jewelry, valuable papers, and all unnecessary items at home and not take them to Peru.
Health
Because you are visiting Andean areas, take precautions to avoid altitude sickness if you are prone to it. During your first day move slowly and eat lightly, resting the first couple of hours. Drink lots of bottled water. We recommend that you get CELL FOOD from a health food store. This product, created by NASA, has components to produce oxygen in a liquid form. Please consult the CDC website for health information, and please keep in mind that we will not be visiting any tropical regions in Peru: http://wwwn.cdc.gov/travel/destinationPeru.aspx
Notes on walking: In Lake Titicaca there are some visits that involve walking:
*Amantani Island, from the port on the island we need to walk a distance of one mile to get to the houses where we will be lodged. The next morning, the ones who are ready will climb to the temples, which are one more mile far from the houses. In none of these place are we running; we are walking and taking our time. The difference in altitude from the port to the temples the next day is about 1000 feet. If some feel they cannot make it to the temples, they can wait in the lower part of the island.
*Ajayu Marka Dimensional Door Way, from the bus we will walk a few meters to the first stop, not a big deal to walk. For the second part, we need to walk half a mile to get to the Dimensional Doorway. This is flat.
*Copamaya, we will meet a lovely community and to get there is not difficult, a walk of half a mile, a little climbing, but accessible.
*Sillustani, here we will do a little climbing similar to Copamaya.
Arrival and Departure
At the airport in Lima, you will be met by our representative with a placard that has your name on it. You will be transported to your hotel. At the time of your departure, our representative will take you to the airport. However, this will not happen unless you have given us your detailed flight information.
Baggage
For your flights within Peru, the weight limit is 20 kilograms (44.1 pounds) or less. If you exceed this weight, you will have to pay a penalty. As you arrive in Lima, our representatives will add a color cord to your bags for easy identification during the trip. Generally as you arrive at the hotels, you do not need to handle luggage from one place to another. You have to tell the porters of hotels to carry your luggage to your room. We recommend that all bags have your identification name in order to bring to your room or to the places you need.
Currency Exchange
One U.S. dollar = approximately 2.70 PEN Peru Nuevo Sol (subject to fluctuation). You may experience difficulty in exchanging traveler’s checks outside Lima or in exchanging currency other than U.S. Dollars. Please consider changing your money in Lima.
Laundry
There are laundry services at the main towns, and the hotels also provide this service. In Cusco, after returning from Machu Picchu, you can use laundry at the hotel or at the different houses in town. Of course the hotels are always more expensive.
Internet
There is internet service all over the main towns and some little ones. There are internet cabins or internet cafés in many places, but if you prefer, you can bring your own laptop with all the accessories to plug in some of the hotels or even internet cafes with wireless. In nearly all the hotels you find some internet services. Some are charging US$2 per hour, and others offer for free. In towns you pay US $1 per hour.
Phone Calls
There are call centers in all the towns where you can make international phone calls for about 1 to 5 dollars per minute. If you wish to use your cell phone, you can make arrangements with your phone carrier to make international calls while in Peru.

About the gifts, we recommend to bring colors, crayons, pens, notebooks, pencils, toys, clothes, or others, but not candies or chemical products. The quantity is never easy to say. For sure, children will love to receive more than one piece—at least two or more. There will be at least three or four places where we meet children from communities or little villages in the Lake Titicaca area.
